ChatGPT and Your Blog: Top 7 Ways To Use ChatGPT in Your Blog + Prompts

Blogging can sometimes feel overwhelming. It’s easy to put it off even though you know having a consistent blog is important to build your business. That’s why ChatGPT has become my trusty sidekick in my blogging adventure!

Whether I’m stuck in an idea rut, struggling to draft the perfect post, or looking to spice up my titles, ChatGPT is always there to help with a blog.

In this article, you’ll learn the top 7 ways I use ChatGPT to make blogging faster, easier, and funner, transforming what used to be a chore into a creative breeze.

As a bonus, after each of the 7 ideas, you’ll find at least one prompt you can try in ChatGPT.

Let’s dive in and discover how ChatGPT can supercharge your blogging game!

1. Idea Generation

One of the most fun but also daunting parts of blogging is coming up with fresh, engaging topics. However, sometimes all the inspiration disappears from my head, and I’m left staring at a blank page.

That’s where my ChatGPT blog sidekick comes in.

I’ll open ChatGPT and type in the keywords I’m targeting. In under a minute, I’ve got a list of potential blog post ideas. Whether I’m looking for unique angles on trending topics or completely new themes, ChatGPT ensures I never run out of inspiration.

The suggestions ChatGPT provides not only spark my creativity but also save me a ton of time I would have otherwise spent researching and brainstorming.

PROMPT: Give me 10 blog topic ideas using the keywords (keyword)

2. Outlining

Once I have a solid topic idea, the next step is to develop an outline.

ChatGPT maps out my blog post from start to finish in seconds. Often, it provides ideas I’d never even thought about. It can also help ensure that my post comprehensively covers the topic.

Remember, though, just because ChatGPT suggests an outline or topics to include doesn’t mean you have to include them. You always maintain editorial control over your content.

To get an outline, I simply input the main topic and ask for a blog outline. If I have things in mind I want included, I’ll include those in the prompt, too.

Then, ChatGPT generates a detailed outline that breaks down the content into manageable sections. ChatGPT’s outline helps ensure that my post flows logically and helps me stay on track while writing.

PROMPT: Generate an outline for a blog on the topic of (topic/keyword)

PROMPT: Generate an outline for a blog on the topic of (topic/keyword) and include (what you want included)

3. Drafting

Once you’ve got an outline, it’s time to start writing. You don’t have to start with a blank page because you’ve got the outline pasted in. Still, getting started can take a jumpstart.

When this happens, I’ll ask ChatGPT to draft specific points or sections. It provides a copy that covers all the essential elements I’ve asked for.

The content is never perfect, but it gives me a starting point. Then, it’s more refining and editing, which means I don’t have to start from scratch. I can focus on enhancing, personalizing, and often totally re-writing the content.

PROMPT: write a draft for (section/points of outline)

4. Rephrasing

If you struggle to find the right words or phrasing, ChatGPT can help again. It can rephrase sentences and paragraphs, ensuring content sounds how you want it to while being clear, engaging, and easy to read.

If something just doesn’t sound right, copy/paste the text into ChatGPT and ask it to rephrase it. You can also provide tone parameters—happy, cherry, etc.

It will then give you some options. You can choose the one that best fits the tone and style of yourblog. Or, if it still isn’t right, you can ask for more ideas.

I find using ChatGPT for rephrasing particularly helpful for clarifying ideas and adding variety to my writing.

You can also use it to rephrase into another tone. For example, if you usually write in a casual tone and need to produce something in a professional tone, you can paste the whole post into ChatGPt and ask it to rewrite it in a professional tone.

PROMPT: rephrase (phrase) and make it  (cheery/happy/cheeky/professional)

5. Writing Titles

Creating an SEO-friendly, clickable blog title brings with it a lot of pressure — almost more pressure than writing the post!

If writing the title is proving a challenge, ChatGPT can bring an unlimited number of ideas to the table (or the screen).

You can paste the whole blog post or main points into ChatGPT and ask it to create 10 (you can use any number you like) titles. You can also include tone words, like when you ask it to help you rephrase something.

I don’t think I’ve ever taken a title directly that ChatGPT has provided without editing it. I’ll often take a couple and mash them together as a starting point.

I say a starting point because I then take the title and use CoSchedule Headline Analyzer to finalize my title. If you want more information on writing killer blog titles which includes more info about Headline Analyzer, you can check out a post all about it here.

Remember, always include your main keyword in your title as early in the title as possible.

Note: The free version of ChatGPT limits the length of a block of text you can paste in. Try it and see how it works for you. You can always upgrade if needed for $20/month.

PROMPT:  Write 10 titles that are catchy and clickable but not clickbait for the following blog post (paste blog post/main ideas)

6. Writing Meta Descriptions

The meta description is the snippet that appears under the title in a search list. A well-crafted meta description helps get people to click on your blog vs someone else’s.

Meta descriptions need to be concise, informative, and enticing, which can sometimes be tricky to achieve.

Fortunately, ChatGPT makes writing effective meta descriptions a breeze.

To have it create a meta description after providing a title, I’ll just ask it to write one that is under 150 characters and includes the main keyword. Meta descriptions should be no longer than 160 characters, so this gives me a little wiggle room for editing.

If you didn’t provide your blog post to ChatGPT before asking for this prompt, you can include it in the prompt or provide the main points of your blog.

After asking the prompt, ChatGPT then generates a variety of meta descriptions that summarize the post while also incorporating the keyword, which boosts SEO.

PROMPT:  Write a meta description for the previous blog post that includes (keyword) and is no longer than 150 characters.

7. Repurposing Content

Once your blog is done, you can’t just let it sit there and hope people find it. You’ve got to maximize its reach and impact. One of the best ways to do this is by repurposing it into different formats.

ChatGPT is an invaluable tool for transforming my blog posts into various types of content. This means I can reach a wider audience without creating new material from scratch.

It is so easy to get content for videos and social media posts from ChatGPT! I just ask it to create a post or video script of a certain length from the blog post. You can also ask it to create newsletter blurbs or LinkedIn posts.

This has probably been the biggest gamechanger in using ChatGPT to help blog. I used to finish a blog post and just be done with it. Now, the final step is to publicize and repurpose it. What a difference this has made in my reach!

PROMPT: Based on the previous blog post, create a Facebook post about it.

PROMPT: Based on the previous blog post, create a video script that is no longer than 60 seconds long.

Conclusion

Using ChatGPT as an assistant in my blog routine has been a game-changer.

From brainstorming innovative ideas to crafting compelling titles and repurposing content, ChatGPT has made every step of the way faster and easier (and often more fun). It saves me time, helps me overcome writer’s block, and ensures my content is engaging and SEO-friendly.

Whether you’re a seasoned blogger or just starting out, leveraging the power of ChatGPT can transform your blogging. It’s like having a creative assistant available 24/7, ready to help with anything you need.
